Today marks the 43rd anniversary of the founding of the United Black Association for Development (UBAD). The meeting which established UBAD took place at a farm owned by the late Wilhelm Arnold at Mile 26 on the Old Northern Highway.
Six months after its founding, UBAD began the publication of this newspaper, Amandala, which continued after UBAD was dissolved in November of 1974. Amandala has been the leading newspaper in Belize since 1981. Amandala has been instrumental in the establishment of KREM Radio, KREM Television, and the Library of African and Indian Studies.
